Rules for the 2012 race

The Racing Aeolus organisation has announced the new rules and regulations for the 2012 racing event. Like every race event the rules and regulations for the participating teams keep evolving in order to keep the event save and fair.

The 2012 race will be held in Den Helder in the Netherlands. The event will start 22nd of August 2012 and the finals will be on the 25th of August 2012

New team! New opportunities!

Today we welcome our new teams members into the Spirit of Amsterdam family! Sadly, however, most of our previous team (2011) has left the project to continue there education / career. While it is sad to see team members leave we are also thrilled to see new members join.

As we start the project for a third year in a row we hope that this new team will be able to duplicate the results of previous years in which we have constructed three wind powered vehicles and have won both the 2009 and 2010 race.

What will the new team build? What kind of vehicle wil the produce? Time will tell, so make sure you visit our website frequently because a new team also brings new ideas and oppertunities to explore!

Spirit 2 comes fifth in the race

After a disappointing qualification day, due to mechanical and electrical failure, we managed to achieve fifth place in the event with the spirit of amsterdam 2. More race details will be released soon!

Spirit 2 at Kersvers festival

Its only been two days since our return from the race event and the Spirit of Amsterdam 2 is already going to its first public event. Meanwhile the Spirit of Amsterdam 3 is on display in the main entrance hall at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam Leeuwenburg building!

Spirit of A'dam loses wold record to DTU

The Spirit of Amsterdam 2 has lost its world record of most efficient against the wind powered vehicle, which was 66% set in 2010, to the DTU team from Denmark.

Next year, like every year, we hope to push the boundaries of innovation to new levels in which we can achieve new amazing feats! So congratulations to the DTU for achieving this result.

Its been a while since our last news update but that doesn't mean we have been idle for the last couple of weeks. Today we are proud to present the preliminary design of the 2011 wind powered vehicle (Spirit of Amsterdam 3).

One of the goals of the project is to generate publicity for the "Hogeschool van Amsterdam" and its sponsors. On occasion we allow groups or individuals to have a look behind the scenes and get a personalized explenation of how the vehicle(s) work!

On the 13th of April the Spirit of Amsterdam made a visit to Ahoy Rotterdam on the request of one of our sponsors.

New website

Since the start of this project in 2009 we have build two winning wind vehicles and this year we will start the construction of our third wind vehicle with a brand new group of students. But this is not the only change this year. For this year we will also update our website with a brand new, student build website.

Other than a new look we also went international. The previous website was completly in dutch and was hard to read by the other teams, international students and by our international sponsors. By changing the language from dutch to english, and by opening a .com webdomain in addition to our .nl domain, we will be able to provide them with a better description and overview in the build of our wind powered vehicles.

Programme for the 2011 event

On Wednesday 17 August the second edition of the Wind Energy Event, Racing AEOLUS, will take place in Den Helder and this event will last until Sunday 21 august 2011.

The teams will be received on Wednesday at the Rugbyclub with the possibility to use the Dijk in the afternoon to test the wind vehicles. On Thursday and Friday the teams can practice on the Dijk from 10.30 untill 18.00 hours, lunch will be on the Dijk for all teams and volunteers. At the end of these days we will be expected at the Rugbyclub for dinner.

On Saturday the finals will be held with in the afternoon an official part for the invited wind related companies to meet and greet the teams whit their materials. The day will be ended at the Rugbyclub with a network event that will end in a festive way.

On Sunday the teams will leave Den Helder in the hope we have found a new sponsor for the next year to make this event possible.

Race rules and vehicle specifications

These specifications are applying to the race planned on the Den Helder Dyke between 17 and 21 August 2011. The requirements are a continuation of the rules applied last year during the race at Stauning Airport Denmark. Differences with respect to last year are printed in Italic.
